Arun Govil is a popular Indian actor whose works encompasses Hindi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Oriya and Telugu film industries. Apart from acting he has also worked as a producer and director. Arun Govil has also been active in the Indian television. He is best recognized for portraying the role of Rama in Ramanand Sagar"s hit television series Ramayan.
Early Life of Arun Govil
Arun Govil was born on 12th January 1958 in Ramnagar near Meerut in the Indian state Uttar Pradesh. His teenage life was spent in Shahjahanpur. He is the fourth of six brothers and two sisters. He received his formal education at Meerut University. During this phase he was also associated with theatres and acted in some plays. His father, Shri Chandra Prakash Govil, always wanted him to pursue a government service as himself whereas Arun aspired to do something for which he would be remembered. At the tender age of 17, in 1975, he shifted to Mumbai and started his own business there. However later he found his way to the world of acting.
Career of Arun Govil
Arun Govil stepped into the arena of Indian cinema in the year 1977 through the Bollywood flick Paheli. He got the break after his sister-in-law Tabassum, former child actress and television host, introduced him to the famous film producer Tarachand Barjatya. Subsequently Arun Govil starred in many other films such as Itni Si Baat, Ayaash, Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin, Sawan Ko Aane Do and others. He was also cast as Vikramaditya by Ramanand Sagar in the television series Vikram Aur Betaal. He also featured in another highly successful television series Ramayan which rendered the actor huge popularity. In the year 1988, Arun Govil won the Uptron Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal in the show Ramayan. His role as Rama provided him a great exposure in the entertainment world and paved his way to other religion based serials portraying Harishchandra in Vishwamitra and Buddha in TV series Buddha. Apart from these he has also acted in many other television shows.
Arun Govil has worked in several languages. His popular Telugu movies are Great Robbery, Govindha Govindha, Edu Kondalaswamy etc. He had also anchored a show on Lord Rama titled Jahan Jahan Ram Charan Chali Jaahi. Some of the Bollywood films in which he has starred include Himmatwala, Yudh, Baadal, Dilwaala, Muqabla, Hathkadi and Do Ankhen Barah Hath. Arun Govil has also established a production company along with Sunil Lahiri, one of his co-stars in Ramayan. He worked as a producer and actor of the television series based on the Indian independence movement titled Mashaal.

Arun Govil is married to Shrilekha who is an actress by profession. The couple is blessed with a son and a daughter.
