Arubathimoovar Festival, Festivals of Tamil NaduArubathimoovar Festival is one of the religious festivals in Chennai and is celebrated in the Kapaleeshwara temple. On the festival day the bronze idols are taken on a procession down the streets of Mylapore. Arubathimoovar festival is celebrated in Mylapore between the months of March- April. In this festival 63 Nayanmars are celebrated. The temple is famous for its ancient Dravidian architecture dating back to the 8th century. The term `Arubathimoovar` refers to the 63 saints of Lord Shiva who surrendered their lives to complete devotion and penance. The bronze idols of the saints are placed in the Kapaleeshwarar Sannadhi. The Nayanmars exalted Lord Shiva with enchanting hymns.
