She had developed an intense interest in exploring clothed and unclothed human figures through the medium of etching. She has taken up painting on large canvases mainly in acrylic. Her intaglio prints still hold their sway over her paintings. She has been experimenting in different areas of the graphic medium. In her composition elements of feminism are seen. Again her firmly drawn figuration of men and women draw one`s attention to the general human situation and to psychological tensions between a man and a woman and that between man and society.
Anupam found inspiration in both male and female sexuality and identities. Her figures are self-absorbed and brooding. Through symbolism and metaphor she engages with socially relevant themes and moody depictions of interrelations between the sexes are the themes worked upon in her creations. Her etchings are made by using zinc plates which is a difficult medium as it requires patience and precision.
Anupam Sood has won awards 19 times between 1969 and 1995. In 1990, the Centre for International Contemporary Art (CICA), New York, awarded her with a study and traveling fellowship in printmaking in the USA, and she won the President of India`s Gold Plaque at the Women`s International Art Exhibition, New Delhi (1975), Special Award at the International Print Biennale, Bharat AIFACS, in the same year.
