Location of Anjuna Beach
Anjuna Beach is located 8 kilometres away from Panaji, Mapusa town, adjacent to the Chapora fort. It is located in the village of Anjuna.

History of Anjuna Beach
Anjuna Beach was discovered by the hippies in 1950`s - 1960`s. It was long held by the Portuguese. It was a hub of backpackers and most recently it became a popular destination for young big-city Indians.

Anjuna Beach is almost 2 kilometres filled with water activities, cafes, coffee shops, family run-guesthouses, and beach bars. Anjuna beach attracts a lot of inland and outland tourists throughout the year. The sea at Anjuna Beach is calm and serene which makes swimming more enthusiastic for the foreign tourists. It has been the birthplace of a well known Goan band, "Above and Beyond". Over the years, the band has released songs and albums dedicated to Anjuna Beach. They also host a radio show by the name of "Anjunabeats", a Worldwide Radio Show. In 2009, they also released a track called "Anjuna beach."

Anjuna beach is sometimes termed as the `Freak Capital of The World`, because of the moonlit parties and the Flea market that makes it the most happening beach of Goa. For the gourmets also Anjuna Beach offers the best of western seafood that are easily available at the beachfront or village hotels. Anjuna beach also hosts the famous flea market which has variety of shops selling a wide range of items like local and Kashmiri handicrafts, jewellery, bags and clothes and electronic devices.

Anjuna beach also has a church located few kilometres from the beach. The Church of St. Michaels was established in 1595 and is dedicated to S. Miguel. The church celebrates the feasts of S. Miguel on September 29 and Nossa Senhora Advogada in the second week of January. The church also houses three large chapels, one each dedicated to S. Antonio, one to Nossa Senhora De Saude and the last one to Nossa Senhora de Piedade. The chapel at Vagator became the Church of the New Parish of Vagator, dedicated to S. Antonio, in the 20th century. The beach is throng by all kinds of crowds, be it a group of over-landers, monks, defiant hippies, artists, travellers, researchers or just someone looking for a place to rejuvenate.
