Angirasas are the warrior priests, who were Kshatriyas by birth. The head of the Rathinara family were called Angirasas. They were Brahmans as well as Kshatriyas. This provides an instance of a mixture of character. There are many such examples where Kshatriyas by birth become Brahmans by profession. These persons are usually considered as Angirasas, descendants or followers of Angiras, who may have founded a school of warrior priests.
