There are three major soil types in Ananthagiri Hills region and comprises of red earths, loamy sands (Dubba), Sandy loams (chalka), and sanyd-clay loam and black soils comprising clay loams, clays, silting clays etc., and the third type of soils of mixed nature, consisting of Quartz deposits followed by Felspar clay, amephyrat and laterite, at Tandur which is 36 kms.

Extension of Ananthagiri Hills
Ananthagiri Hills are residual and sedimentary hills located at Vikarabad region of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana. The water flows from Ananthagiri Hills to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. Osman sagar and Himayat sagar are the two important lakes in Telangana. Himayat Sagar is an artificial lake, about 20 km from Hyderabad in Telangana. It lies parallel to a larger artificial lake Osman Sagar. The storage capacity of the reservoir is about 3.0 TMC. On the contrary, Osman Sagar popularly known as Gandipet is an artificial lake in the Indian city of Hyderabad, the capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The lake is around 46 square kilometres and the reservoir is around 29 square kilometres. Musi River also known as Muchukunda River used to originate in Ananthagiri Hills. Musi River is stretched over 90 kilometres to the west of Hyderabad and flowed due east for almost its entire course. Musi River then joins the Krishna River at Pangal in Nalgonda district of Telangana after covering a total distance of about 240 kilometres.

The flora of Ananthagiri Hills exhibit xerophytes with 42.5% of the land under the cultivation of various types of crops. The hills and the slopes are generally covered by dry deciduous forests.
