Amarpur is a town and a nagar panchayat situated in Gomati district in the Tripura state of India. It is also the headquarters of Amarpur sub-division. With an average elevation of 24 metres above sea level, it is located 120 km from Agartala. Metalled roads connect the town with Udaipur and Teliamura. The official languages of this town are Bengali, Kokborok and English. Amarpur is full of natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. It has several lakes and religious spots that are worth exploring.

According to 2001 India census, the town had a population of 10,863 of which the males were 54% and females were 46%. In Amarpur, 9% of the population was under 6 years of age. As per the report of same year, the town had an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. The literacy rate of male was 56% and female was 44%.
Tourism of Amarpur
Amarpur has established a number of places of interest that are worth visiting. The town is beautifully nestled on the banks of Amarsagar, the 16th century artificial lake. It stands on the ruins of a palace. There lies an ancient temple on the southern bank built in the honour of eight headed goddess, Mangalchandi. A fair is organized in the temple area in the month of February. The town is home to another lake of historical significance namely Fatiksagar. Chobimura is also a popular place in the town. It is a water area with green hills and images of Gods adorn the hills. One can also visit Dumboor Lake which offers various water sports facilities. The lake has 48 islands enveloped by luxuriant green vegetation. The lake has rich reservoir of natural and cultured fishes. During winter, it invites various species of migratory birds. There is a Hydel Project near the lake from where the River Gomati originates and this is called Tirthamukh. Every year on 14 January the famous `Pous Sankranti Mela` takes place here which attracts a large number of people from various places of the state.
