Aloo Chat, Indian SnacksAloo chat made with the boiled potatoes and various spices is one of the most popular Indian snacks that are relished in the evening as break time meal. The snack is easier to prepare and can be made with the leftover boiled potatoes. It is also popularly sold by vendors in various streets of India.

The ingredients of Aloo Chat:

•1 tbsp Chat Masala
•80 ml cold water
•6 medium-sized boiling potatoes (red waxy potatoes are best)
•375 g ripe tomatoes cut into small cubes
•4 tbsps finely chopped onions
•3- 4 tbsps coarsely chopped fresh coriander leaves
•1 tsp ground roasted cumin seeds
Salt to taste
• Juice of half a medium-sized lemon

Method of preparing Aloo Chat

•Firstly, the chat masala which is a blend of ¾ tsp ground roasted cumin seeds with one fourth tsp each of red pepper, black pepper, ground asafetida, mango powder, half tsp black salt, and three-fourth tsp salt, is mixed with the water and set aside.


•Then drain the boiled potatoes and peel and cut into 1- to 2-cm in half inch to three-fourth inch cubes. Put these in a glass or ceramic bowl, and while still warm, the masala mixture is poured over them. Stir the potatoes carefully to distribute and absorb the spices.


• Chopped tomatoes, onions and coriander leaves are to be added to the potatoes. Keep the mixed potatoes for 30 minutes.


•Finally, to enhance the taste, sprinkle cumin, salt and lemon juice and toss and is serve over lettuce leaves.

This traditional chat is a popular street chat and can be easily prepared at home as well. Aloo chat can be enjoyed as a spicy snack in the evening. This is a favourite to all age groups. Aloo chat can be teamed up with bhujiya to enhance its taste.
