All India Engineering Entrance Examination is the entrance test examination needed for taking admissions to various professional under-graduate bachelor courses belonging to some of the prominent educational institutions in India. AIEEE is organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Department of Secondary & Higher Education, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). This national level entrance examination is conducted in compliance with the directives of the Government of India. A centralized counselling system is provided for filling up the available seats all over India. This counselling is available only for the candidates who stand in merit of All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

Depending on the scores obtained in AIEEE, one can get admission in the various prestigious engineering and architecture institutes of the country. The college list includes the National Institute of Technology (NITs) and other state level institutes. AIEEE is defined as the most prestigious and popular engineering admission test conducted across the country. Students start preparing for this entrance examination much before and well in advance. It is conducted by the CBSE and therefore the syllabus of AIEEE is usually from the class 11th and 12th standard of this concerned board.

Application forms
The availability of application forms for the AIEEE 2010 is expected in between the first week of December 2009 till the first week of January 2010. Students can get the forms in some designated branches of Syndicate bank and CBSE Regional Offices. Interested students can also request for the forms by sending a demand draft to the AIEEE Unit, CBSE. All the leading national dailies inform about the availability of forms. There is the option of applying online, candidates just need to fill the information and send the printout of the form to AIEEE office.

Eligibility Criteria for AIEEE Exam
In order to qualify for the AIEEE tests, the interested candidates are expected to pass the HSC (Science) examinations or any equivalent examinations. A student who has completed his/her 3 or 4 year diploma, which is recognized by All India Council for Technical Education {AICTE} or a State Board of Technical Education, is also eligible for appearing for the exams. Students who are willing to appear for B. Tech or BE entrance test should have compulsory Mathematics and Physics in their 12th standard or any one among Biotechnology, Computer Science, Chemistry or Biology. Students appearing for the architecture degree courses must have Mathematics in the 12th standard with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

Courses Offered

•B.E/ B. Tech

•B. Arch/ B. Planning

Pattern of examination
Entrance examination for the B.E or B. Tech is of 3 hours. It comprises objective questions from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Each subject has equal weightage. The questions have four options and there is the system of negative marking. One fourth marks will be deducted for incorrect answers. Entrance tests for B. Arch or B. Planning will also be of 3 hours consisting of three parts: Mathematics, Drawing and Aptitude test. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate`s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness. Maximum number of questions differs every year. The candidates appearing for the AIEEE can answer their paper in either Hindi or English.

Selection Process
Candidates who are opting for B. Tech courses are tested in mathematics, physics and chemistry. Equal percent of weightage is given to all the sections. On the other hand, students opting for B. Arch. are tested in mathematics and in an aptitude test. Results of AIEEE are declared at the end of May every year. Candidates are positioned on an all India basis and as per their position in the state level. On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for B.E/B. Tech and B. Arch/B. Planning. Score Card indicating All India Rank with total marks and marks in each subject is sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE. Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks (it is different for General and SC/ST/PH category candidates) to be called for counselling shall be determined at the time of declaration of AIEEE results. Cut off percentage of marks for OBC shall be determined as and when government orders are issued for the same.

In case of two or more candidates obtaining equal marks, merit of such candidates shall be determined as follows:
B.E/ B. Tech - By marks obtained in Mathematics and then in Physics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

B. Arch/ B. Planning - By marks obtained in Aptitude Test and then in Mathematics in the AIEEE and then by age (preference to older candidates).

All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) follows pattern to test the students` skills in the areas they are interested studying at degree level. It is one of the most competitive modes to judge a student`s ability and knowledge.
