All India Chess Federation (AICF) plays the central and the most important role in the management scenario of the Indian chess. The AICF is the national body for governing Chess in India and most of the other Chess Associations in India such operate under the umbrella of AICF.
Foundation of All India Chess Federation
The central administrative body of Indian Chess, All India Chess Federation was established in the year 1951 with its headquarters in Mumbai. It is affiliated to the World Body for Chess, the `Federation Internationale des Echecs` (FIDE). The AICF is working in association with more than 30 affiliated state associations, 16 special units and 23 recognized academies as its constituents, at the moment. Such institutions are All Assam Chess Association, All Bihar Chess Association, All Tripura Chess Association, All Jharkand Chess Association, Chess Association - Kerala, Andhra Pradesh Chess Association, All Jammu & Kashmir Chess Association, and Chandigarh Chess Association.
Function of All India Chess Federation
Since its inception, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) has been working for promoting the game of Chess in India. The Federation has played an active role in identifying new talents and ensuring quality competition in the domestic level. The state Chess associations are also working in collaboration with the AICF on achieving the same objective of improving the condition of Chess in India.
The All India Chess Federation (AICF) organises numerous tournaments and events at the national level and also patronises various regional events, organised by the state Chess associations. Besides organising Chess tournaments in the national circuit, the AICF has also played host to a number of major world events in India like, World Junior Championships, the Commonwealth Championships and Asian Team Championships etc. Some of the eminent chess personalities are Praveen Mahadeo Thipsay, Viswanathan Anand, Dibyendu Barua
Apart from managing the Men`s Chess in India, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) is also in charge of managing Women`s Chess in India. The AICF organised the first Women`s Senior National Chess Championship in 1974. The Chess Championship in India has helped in producing several eminent women Chess players like Vasanthie Khadilkar, Jayshree Khadilkar, Rohini Khadilkar, Bhagyashree Thipsay, Anupama Gokhale, Koneru Humpy, etc. It can be said that, so far in its journey, the All India Chess Federation (AICF) has got remarkable success in promoting and managing the game of Chess in India.
All India Chess Federation for the Blind
The All India Chess Federation for the Blind (AICFB) is the governing body for the game of Chess among the blind people in India. Established in 1997 affiliated by the International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) in 1998 and All India Chess Federation with a view in promoting the game of chess among the visually impaired all over the country, this organisation has a set of aims and objectives to enhance the interest of the blind people of India to involve in Chess competition in India.
Aims and Objectives of the All India Chess Federation for the Blind
The aims and objectives of The All India Chess Federation for the Blind are:
1. The All India Chess Federation for the Blind aims in forming the state associations in all the states in India to find out the talents of the state level.
2. It provides the playing opportunities to all players all over the country.
3. It publishes and provides Braille books on chess to help players develop their game. This book is the bible of The Indian Chess for the visually impaired people.
4. It also keep the up to date records about the state level champions in the chess and also this association has its archive of the audiocassette and the compact discs library, which provides information and analysis of chess games.
5. Enhancing in advanced technology and providing tutorials of the games to the players.
6. It organises the seminars and coaching camps time to time for the players.
7. This organisation keeps interaction with the government and introduces chess as a subject in blind schools.
8. It organises the local, regional and national level tournaments in the country.
9. It helps the player to introduce in the foreign country to participate in International chess tournaments.
10. It is affiliated to the International Braille Chess Association and represents India on International forum for blind chess.
11. It also organises the chess competition in international level and also the tournaments, seminars etc.
