History of Alisagar Deer Park
Alisagar Deer Park houses a man-made lake or reservoir, named Alisagar. This was constructed prior to the construction of the park. Thus the park was named after the name of the reservoir. The reservoir was constructed by the Nizam of the state in the year 1931. The deer park was established in the year 1985 in order to preserve the different species of deer and to create a natural habitat for them. The Alisagar Deer Park also reflects the rich and elegant lifestyle of the Nizams of the region. The attractiveness in the reservoir is enhanced with the hillocks and the gardens that are decorated with flowers of distinct colours. Flora and Fauna of Alisagar Deer Park
The Alisagar Deer Park at Nizamabad is characterized by dry deciduous forests and dense vegetation. The main attraction of this park is the different species of deer. These are marked for the differences in appearance, characteristics and habits. Apart from deer, tourists can also see Jackal Muntjack, Fishing Cats, Jaguars, Wolves, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Tiger, Wild Boar, Panther, Fox, Gaur, the Salt-Water Crocodiles, Langur, Rhesus monkey, Mandrills, Olive Baboons, Bonnet Monkey, Sacred Baboons, Panthers, Lions, Pumas, Jackals, Wild Dogs, Hyena, Pythons, Snakes, and others here. The park also provides shelter to a variety of birds like Grey Pelicans, Rosy Pelicans, Pied Horn Bills, Painted Storks, Peacocks, Ducks, Love Birds and others. Budgerigars and Cockatiels and Hippopotamus can also be seen here.
The best time to visit the park is during the months of October to May. The park experiences tropical climate. In summer the maximum temperature goes upto 45C whereas in winter it drops down to 18C. Alisagar Deer Park is easily accessible from the other parts of the state. The district of Nizamabad is well connected by roads and railways to the capital city of Hyderabad that lies at a distance of 163 kilometers from Nizamabad. The nearest airport to the district lies in Hyderabad. The nearest railhead is Nizamabad railway station on the Kachiguda - Manmad line of the South Central Railway. Regular buses are also available from Nizamabad to the Alisagar Deer Park.
