Alipurduar DistrictAlipurduar District is a newly formed district in the state of West Bengal. This district was formed in the year 2014, on 25th June. Alipurduar district consists of Alipurduar municipality, Falakata municipality and six community development blocks. The six community development blocks are Madarihat-Birpara, Alipurduar-I, Alipurduar-II, Falakata, Kalchini and Kumargram. The six blocks contain 66 gram panchayats and nine census towns. The district has its headquarters at Alipurduar. Alipurduar Division was set up in 1969 when the divisional scheme was introduced in N. F. Railway. Alipurduar is a Sub-divisional town of Jalpaiguri district and is situated in the foothills of the Hamalayas.

Alipurduar District is governed by Alipurduar municipality. The subdivision of Alipurduar district contains nine census towns and rural areas of 66 gram panchayats under six community development blocks. The nine census towns of Alipurduar district are Paschim Jitpur (West Jitpur), Chechakhata, Bholar Dabri, Sobhaganj, Falakata, Jaygaon and Uttar Latabari and Uttar Kamakhyaguri.

The rural areas of Alipurduar district are under Madarihat-Birpara block. This block consists of ten gram panchayats like Bandapani, Hantapara, Madarihat, Totopara Ballalguri, Birpara-I, Khayarbari, Rangalibajna, Birpara-II, Lankapara and Shishujhumra.

There is no urban area under this block of Alipurduar District. The Madarihat and Birpara police stations serve this block. The rural areas of Alipurduar District are under Alipurduar-I block consists of 11 gram panchayats. The gram panchayats of Alipurduar-I are Banchukamari, Parorpar, Shalkumar I, Vivekananda I, Chakowakheti, Patlakhawa, Shalkumar II, Vivekananda II, Mathura, Purba Kanthalbari and Tapsikhata.

The people of Santhali tribe, Oraon tribe, Madesia tribe and Garo tribe can be found here in large number. Besides the local Rajbanshis, the original inhabitants of Coochbehar district and the Alipurduar district and people migrated from Bangladesh, the neighbour country are residing in Alipurduar district.

The division of Alipurduar district extends from Jalpaiguri road to New Bongaigaon and Gulma to Dhubri including other branch lines. It serves the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar in West Bengal, and Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon in Assam among others.

Tourism of Alipurduar District
Tourism of Alipurduar district covers the tourist spots like Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jaldapara Game Sanctuary and Phuntsholling. Bhutan is not very far from Alipurduar district. The scenic beauty of Jayanti hill is the centre of attraction to the local and foreign tourists.
