Alang Fort, also known as "Alangad", is situated in Nashik district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It one of the major forts in the Kalsubai ranges of the Western Ghats. The geographical coordinates are latitude 19.5827 °, N and longitude 73.6612 ° E. The structure is mostly constructed with stone and lead. It is located at an altitude of 4500 feet and is surrounded by dense forest. The fortress was mostly occupied by the rulers of the Maratha Empire. Currently it is becoming the famous spot for trekking.
History of the Alang Fort
The fort was once being used by the tribal people of the areas. Earlier the Mughals and Marathas occupied this fort and this fort kept as a watch tower in the medieval period because of its height.
Architecture of the Alang Fort
The top of the fortress is a vast plateau. The vicinity includes 2 caves that were used for lodging. There were around eleven water reservoirs in the premise of the fort. Presently, only the ruins of several buildings are found in the fort. There is also a small temple nearby.
Alang Fort offers a panoramic view of the landscape. The regions of Bitangad, Patta, Kalasubai and Aundh Fort in the east can be viewed from here. Moreover, Anjaneri, Trymbakgad and Harihar in the north and Katrabai, Ratangad, Khutta, Aajobagad and Harishchandragad in the south can also be viewed from the fort. Currently, the site has been developed as tourist destination. It is being preserved and protected by the Government of India.
