Robin Uthappa, Karnataka Cricket PlayerRobin Uthappa was born on November 11, 1985 in Kodagu District, Karnataka. He has come from a sport-oriented family. He attends Bethel AG Church in Bengaluru. Robin Uthappa`s father is an international hockey referee and Robin Uthappa scored heavily in the domestic cricket. He scored 854 runs in 7 Ranji Trophy matches in 2006-07 seasons and was awarded the best batting award in this season. Before the Ranji Trophy he played 20 matches and scored at an average of 32 with one hundred. Initially he was a wicketkeeper-batsman but later he gave up the big gloves in order to concentrate on batting and now he does the medium pace bowling occasionally.

He was the useful part of the U-19 Indian team which won the Asia Cup He first caught the public eye when cracked the bowling attack of Zaheer Khan, R. P. Singh and Murali Kartik of Indian A team in 2005 Challenger trophy cricket by scoring 66runs. Next year in the subsequent edition of the same tournament he did hit a splendid match winning hundred of just 93 balls and grabbed the attention of the selector of national team. He made his One-Day International debut final match of the English tour of India in April 2006. He made 86 runs as an opening batsman before being run out. It was the highest score for any Indian debutant in limited over match. After that he did not score well in the next two matches and spell out of the team.

In January 2007 for the series against the West Indies he was recalled where he proved himself by smashing a 70 from just 41 balls. In world cup 2007 he played three games and scored only 30 runs .This was one of the crucial reasons for the bad performance of India in this event. In the sixth ODI of the Nat-West Trophy 2007-2008, he regained his form and made effective 47 of 33 balls and lead India to a thrilling triumph. In 20twenty World cup he was the essential member of the team.

IPL Career for Robin Uthappa
In the inaugural version of Indian Premier League Robin Uthappa played for Mumbai Indians and did fairly well for that franchisee. Then in January 2009, Uthappa was swapped with Zaheer Khan and was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Franchisee from Bengaluru).

He smashed 51 runs of 21 balls in a match against Kings XI Punjab (franchisee from Punjab) in 2010 version of Indian Premier League. He later turned out to be a match winning score. However in 2011, he was bought by the Pune franchisee, the Pune Warriors for a whooping cost of 2.1 million.
