Ahmed Khan in 1936 OlympicsAhmed Sher Khan was born on November 1, 1912. An Indian field hockey player, Ahmed Sher Khan competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the Indian field hockey team, which won the gold medal at the 1936 Olympics. He played one match as forward. Ahmed Sher Khan married lissome Pathan lass called Ahmedi after the 1936 Olympics with whom he has two daughters and one son Aslam Sher Khan. Aslam Sher Khan on his credit is also an Indian Filed Hockey player. He died on March 13, 1967.

In 1936, at the Berlin Olympics Ahmed Sher Khan, along with Dhyan Chand, the legendary wizard of hockey represented India. Dhyan Chand`s son Ashok Kumar and Aslam Sher Khan, decades later were ordained to play together for India. As Aslam Sher Khan recalled his grand fathers sayings about his father, "Your father had a streak of madness in him, Like you, he had a great obsession for hockey. He made your mother promise that if they had a son, she would bring him up to be a hockey player."

Aslam Sher Khan recalls the childhood spent with his father Ahmed Sher Khan, My father never selected me to play for the school team, even though he was the coach. Whenever I asked my father about it, his stock reply would be, "you still have a lot to learn." As I look back, I realize that my father`s old world values restricted my selection - he wanted to avoid any accusation that the coach had selected his own son for the team."

In the year 1966, when Ahmed Sher Khan fell ill, he was admitted in the Hamidia hospital. At that crucial time, his son Aslam was called up for the All India schools hockey camp at Bhopal.
