Ahilya Fort is a fort-cum-hotel located in the town of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. The striking fort is situated beside the sacred river Narmada. Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar ruled Maheshwar from 1765 to 1796 and built "Ahilya Wada", her personal residences, offices and durbar audience hall within the fort.
In the year 2000, Prince Richard Holkar, her descendant and son of the last Maharaja of Indore, converted the Ahilya Fort into a guest residence. Today the fort is known around the world as the "Ahilya Fort Hotel".
Ahilya Fort hosts "The Sacred River", a three-day celebration of the Narmada each year in February, featuring classical music, dance and vocals performed against stunning backdrops.
