Aditya is the other name of the Sun or the Surya.

Aditya, the sunAditya is the other name of the Sun. The Sun is also called Surya, the chief of the Gods at a very early period. The twelve solar dynasties of the sun under a different name and sign of the zodiac in each month of the year are called "Adityas". Adityas are the solar deities who reside in the heavenly regions and personify various natural phenomena. The Adityas represent light of whom Lord Surya, the sun god is the most prominent. Their names are also used as the epithets of Surya. In the Bhagavata Purana, the names of 12 Adityas are given as:

1. Vishnu
2. Aryaman
3. Indra
4. Tvashtha
5. Varuna
6. Dhata
7. Bhaga
8. Savitr
9. Vivasvan
10. Amsuman
11. Mitra
12. Pushan

Birth of Adityas
Aditya means He whose mother is Aditi. The Adityas are children of Aditi, mother of Gods and Sage Kashyapa, the father of all creation.
