Adilabad Fort, DelhiAdilabad Fort in Delhi was built in the 14th Century by Muhammad bin-Tughlaq and was a substantial part of the city of Jahanpanah. This is a fort that was built right near the Tughlaqabad Fort of Delhi. It is the fourth fort to have been built around Delhi. It mostly consists of ruins today but it had been a very powerful place for a good period of time.

The fort was one of the most notable parts of the city and had been used as a place to protect people from a number of outside influences. The grand palace that was used for public audiences to meet with the emperor has since been destroyed. The ruins of this part of the Adilabad Fort can be found to this day.

Construction of Adilabad Fort
Adilabad Fort took shape as a very small fort compared to the majestic Fort of Tughlaqabad and slowly took shape when fortified walls were built to protect the city and its people from troublesome attacks. Upon completion of the massive walls, a citadel palace was constructed that housed the royal family of the Tughlaq dynasty and royal courtiers.

Architecture of Adilabad Fort
Adilabad Fort features a large series of walls used to separate it from other spots. It is believed that the walls were at least 12m thick and were at least 8 km long when it was first built. The Adilabad Fort houses the legendary "Palace of a Thousand Pillars".

A big feature about the Adilabad Fort is that these walls are the most prominent materials that are still noticeable in the area. Another prominent feature of Adilabad Fort is its stream support system. A large building was used with a series of portals that would get water from a nearby stream to flow into the city. This was used to help with providing the fort and other parts of the city with water. A few remnants of this system can still be found. Also, there is a very interesting octagonal building located around the fort known as the "Vijay Mandal". It is believed to have doubled as a meeting place for members of the royal family and also as a watchtower to use for observing things on the ground area.

Visiting Information of Adilabad Fort
Adilabad Fort is open for people to visit to this day. It is located right around the southern end of Delhi. Tourist can reach this site via cars, buses and auto rickshaws. Entry into this site is free of cost and opened to public viewing daily.
