AdilabadAdilabad is a Municipal town in Adilabad district of Telangana, a newly formed state with the capital Hyderabad for the span of 10 years. As of 2011 Census, it had a population of 117,388. It is the headquarters of Adilabad district.

Location of Adilabad
Adilabad, the urban town in Adilabad District has an average elevation of 264 metres (866 feet). Adilabad also consists of many landscapes of natural beauties like Kuntala waterfalls and Sahyadri Mountains. There are rivers like the Godavari River, Penaganga River and Pranahitha River. The city of Adilabad shares its boundaries with Nizamabad District and Karimnagar district of Telangana to the south and with Nanded District, Yavatmal District, Chandrapur District and AdilabadGadchiroli district of Maharashtra on the west, north and east respectively. Most of the boundary is designated by the rivers Godavari and Penganga.

History of Adilabad
Adilabad derives its name from the former ruler of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah, the ruler of Adil Sahi Dynasty. Adilabad is the northernmost district of Nizam state of the Deccan region. Owing to its position at the border of central and southern India, it has been ruled by North Indian dynasties like the Maurya Empire and the Mughal Empire and South Indian dynasties like the Satavahana Dynasty and the Chalukya Dynasty. The current culture of the district incorporates significant elements of the neighbouring Marathi culture into the native Telugu culture. However a multicultural society exists here with Bengali speaking people, Malayali speaking people, Rajasthani speaking people and Gujarati speaking people living in harmony.

Demography of Adilabad
According to the Population Census of 2011, Adilabad had a population of 117,388 and urban agglomeration population of 139,103. The males constitute 70,403 of the population and females 68,700. Adilabad has an average literacy rate of 80.15 percent. About 15,390 of the population is under 6 years of age.

Adilabad Urdu language is the native language of Adilabad while Telugu is the official language. The other languages spoken are Gormati language and Marathi language as Adilabad is almost at the border to Maharashtra.

Tourism of Adilabad
Tourism of Adilabad covers the historical temples and ancient monuments and shimmering waterfalls. The waterfalls like Kuntala Waterfall and Pochera Falls are the centre of attraction. It bears the mythological significances. The wildlife sanctuaries like Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary, Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary, Pranahitha Wildlife add the importance to the national and international visitors. The tourists are attracted to the Nirmal Toys and Nirmal Paintings and Kala Ashram, which are the mirrors of Telangana Art and Culture. Mavala Lake is another tourist attraction spot located at about 6 kilometres south side of Adilabad town. It was built during the Nizam period of the later phase of medieval era. Water from the lake is supplied to the town and serves the needs about 40 percent of people in it. There is a park adjacent to the lake which is attracted by a large number of couples.
