Abohar is a city in the district of Firozpur in Punjab. The city is known as California Punjab for its rich soil, good irrigation sources, and particularly for the production of knoo (a fruit of the orange family). It is a place renowned as the trinity of culture, ethinicity and civilization of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

History of Abohar
In 1893, under the remains of the ancient city Abunagri, the place was known as Kaiser-Ganj. As we enter Abhaor we can see the remains of the ancient city Abunagri. The history of the city is based upon a legend. The historical city was build by a Suryavanshi king Aabu-Chandni. After death he was buried under it. The legendary story of city says that, once the king fell victim of leprosy. Some one told him that he could recover from the disease only with the blood of the horses of five pirs of Multan. It is said that his daughter who was over brave snatched the 81 horses of five pirs along with their goods, but king Harichand succumbed to the disease. Five pirs sent many request to get their horses back, but the princess refused to give their horses back. As they did not get the horse they came to the city and camped on a hillock of sand near present Abohar. It is said that the pirs got angry, for not being returned their horses, and destroyed the Aabu Nagar with their divine powers.

During the time of Independence in 1947, the city witnessed Hindu Muslim riots as this was the last main town along Delhi-Bahawalpur.

Geography of Abohar
The city is located on the Ganganagar- Delhi railway route. The boundaries of the city touch Rajasthan`s mounds on one side and planes of Haryana on the other side.

Economy of Abohar
The economy of Abohar is based on industries and mills. There are a large number of cotton industries, ghee and refined industries. The people here depend on agriculture.

Transport of Abohar
Abohar is well connected to other cities by means of rails and busses. People depend mainly on trains and busses here. There is no commercial airport in the city.
