Abhimanyu, MahabharataAbhimanyu was one of the major characters of Mahabharata. He was the son of Arjuna who was killed in the war of Mahabharata. It is believed that as an unborn child in his mother`s womb, Abhimanyu learned the knowledge of entering the deadly Chakravyuha from Arjuna. It is believed that he overheard his Arjuna talking about this with his wife Subhadra from the womb. He explained to Subhadra, the technique of attacking and escaping from various vyuhas such as Makaravyuha, Kurmavyuha, Sarpavyuha and so on. Then he explains about the technique of cracking Chakravyuha. When he was about to explain how to walk out from the Chakravyuha, he realises that Subhadra is asleep. As a result, he could not hear the whole story about how to exit from Chakravyuha.

Abhimanyu had spent his childhood in Dwaraka. He was trained by Pradyumna, Lord Krishna`s son as well as from Krit Verma and Satyaki. He was also influenced by his father Arjuna and brought up under the guidance of Krishna and Balarama. His father married him off to Uttara, daughter of King Virata to seal an alliance between the Pandavas and the royal family of Virata.

Abhimanyu is also considered as the reincarnation of Moon`s son. When God requested Moon to let his son personify on Earth, the moon agreed. However the moon could not bear said that could not bear his son`s departure for more than 16 years.

Abhimanyu`s wife gains most importance on the thirteenth day of the war. He destroyed the banner and checked Bhishma`s advance on the first day. He entered the Chakravyuha on the thirteenth day which was the battle formation of the Kaurava army. Only Pradyumna, Krishna and Arjuna knew the secret technique to break this seven-tier defensive spiral formation used by Dronacharya. He partially knew how to enter it but had knowledge of its exit. He is killed before he can come out.

He was the grandson of Lord Indra he was a courageous and dashing warrior. He was able to hold at bay heroes like Drona, Karna, Duryodhana and Dushasana. Abhimanyu defeats all the Maharathis on a one on one battle. He pierced Karna`s armour. He killed Brihadbala, the king of Kosala of the Ikshwaku dynasty. He alone destroyed 3/4ths of an Akshouhini army. He leaves Duryodhana chariotless and weaponless, bleeding all over. He also kills Duryodana`s son Lakshamana. The final blow on Abhimanyu was struck by the son of Dushasana, Durmashana. Abhimanyu attained Moksha in this manner.
