It was a dream project of the Vandayar family, especially of late Rao Bahadur Sri A. Veeriya Vandayar and his brother, late Sri A. Krishnaswamy Vandayar. It was named A. Veeriya Vandayar Memorial Sri Pushpam College in 1972, in memory of the founder President. Acknowledging its contribution in the field of academics, A. Veeriya Vandayar Memorial Sri Pushpam College (Autonomous) has received a `four star` status by N.A.A.C. The College also has gained autonomy since nineteen years.

In the midst of serene locales it is laid out on an area of nearly 85 acres and is positioned on the Thanjavur-Nagapattinam main road, almost twelve km east of Thanjavur. A. Veeriya Vandayar Memorial Sri Pushpam College houses seventeen departments including Tamil, English, Hindi, History, Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Microbiology, Zoology & Bio-Technology, Computer Science, Physical Education, Business Administration, Library & information Science.

Both in undergraduate and postgraduate levels, A. Veeriya Vandayar Memorial Sri Pushpam College (Autonomous) offers several courses, like- B.A. in History, B.A. in Economics, B.A. in Tamil, B.A. in Indian Culture, B.A. in English, B.Com, B.Com. with integrated Tax Procedure and Practice, B.Sc. in Mathematics, B.Sc. in Physics, B.Sc. in Chemistry, B.Sc. in Botany, B.Sc. in Botany with integrated Industrial Microbiology, B.Sc. in Zoology, B.Sc. in Computer Science and Bachelor in Business Administration (B.B.A). Put up in a separate building that was built in 1971, it has a huge collection of books including two hundred and thirty one journals. The library`s rare collection of English literature books- both seventeenth century classics and modern day literary works, deserve a special mention. Apart from this, departmental libraries, thronged with book banks, collection of textbooks and hardback volumes as well as current volumes of journals are also of great help to the students.

The canteen is also a hub where both students and staffs visit to enjoy time in leisure, while munching some snacks in delight. Stationery items, cosmetics and consumer products are available in Consumer Stores. There is a computer laboratory where students can avail the facility of 24 hrs internet browsing. Indian Overseas Bank also provides banking facilities to the students of A. Veeriya Vandayar Memorial Sri Pushpam College. There is a health centre with a doctor and health supervisor. Post Office, Telephone Booth, a photocopier also suffice the needs of the students. In order to fete cultural activities, an Indoor College Auditorium and an open air Amphi Theatre also is present. To deal with the students` problems, a Youth Counselling center and also a career-counselling cell are moving towards height of success. Frequent bus services enable the students to commute smoothly from neighbouring areas.
