Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka Fort, KarnatakaKasturi Rangappa Nayaka Fort, also known as Sira Fort is located in the Sira town in Tumkuru district of Karnataka. The fort is named after the Nayaka ruler Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka, who had ruled over Sira in the early 17th century as a Polygar under the Vijayanagar Empire. After their rule, the fort and the province of Sira came under the control of several rulers. Restoration works have been carried out by the Archaeology Department of Karnataka.

History of Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka Fort
The history of the Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka fort intertwines itself with that of the town, which has over the past five centuries seen the rule of Vijayanagara, Adil Shahi, Mughal and Maratha rulers, Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan and the Wodeyars. The fort was built in the early 17th century by Nayakas, the local fiefdom.

Features of Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka Fort
The Kasturi Rangappa Nayaka Fort was made of stone and bricks. It is spread over an area of 197.5 acres. The fort was enclosed by a moat and a three-layer wall also formed part of the fortifications. 18 bastions are positioned along the perimeter separated by equal distances.
