Kanigiri Fort, also known as Durgam Fort, is located in Prakasam District of Andhra Pradesh state. It was once called Kanakagiri means golden konda. Its full name is Kanakagiri Vijaya Marthanda Durga. The fort is perched on the Kannigiri Hill.
History of Kannigiri
Kannigiri used to be a parallel kingdom when the poet and the king Nne Choddu rules Udayagiri in Nellore. According to the legends, the fifth king of this dynasty during 13th century ruled over Kanigiri by defeating king Choddu"s grandchildren. At that time, Sri Krishna Devarayas ruled over the Kanigiri Fort.
Structures inside Kanigiri Fort
There are two structures situated inside the fort campus, which are Chennumakku Well and Singarappa Temple. The towers of the fort, Prahari, Lodarpadas, Chennammabawi, horseshoes, the wells of the elephants and mandalas have been destroyed. The temples of Durgamma and Sitaramulla also attract the tourists.

Ongole Railway Station and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport are the nearest to reach the Kanigiri Fort. National Highway 5 connects Prakasam District to other major cities of India.
