The smoke was believed to cure headache, colds, asthma, earache, nausea and even exhaustion. The leaves or juice of the plant was used to treat burns, cuts, deafness, eye infections, constipation, boils, sores, croup, fluid retention and animal bites, especially those that were poisonous, among other ailments.
