Use of Alum as MedicinesAlum is the common name for the hydrated salts of potassium. It is generally known as "Phitkari". Alum is prepared from alum shale in Punjab and Bihar. It is not mentioned by Sushruta, in his list of metallics, but later many Sanskrit writers gave its synonyms and uses.

Benefits of Alum
Alum is described as an astringent, and as useful in leucorrhoea, strangury, vomiting, ulcers, white leprosy, eye diseases, etc. It enters into the composition of several applications to the eye in combination with rasot, opium etc. It is seldom used internally.
