Krishnapatnam, Andhra PradeshKrishnapatnam is a modern port town located in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. This port town is situated in Muthukur mandal of Nellore District. Nellore District or Amarajeevi Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore District is one of the 23 districts of Andhra Pradesh. Nellore District is located in between 13.30 degree and 15.6 degree of Northern latitude and 70.5 degree and 80.15 degree of Eastern longitude. It has a total land area of 13,076 square kilometers. The boundaries of the district are as follows Bay of Bengal to the east, Tamil Nadu to the south, Cuddapah district and Prakasam to the north and in the east the district is bordered by the low lying bases of the Eastern Ghats.

According to the Population Census in the year 2011, this modern port town had a population of 5,686. The total population in Krishnapatnam constitute about 2,815 males, 2,871 females and 732 children, in the age group of 0-6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 65.22 percent with 3,231 literates. This is significantly lower than the national average of 73.00 percent.

Krishnapatnam Port is a major port located at a distance of 24 kilometres from Nellore city of Nellore District. Krishnapatnam is one of the very few ports in the world which can handle giant ships with load capacities of 1, 50,000 tonnes. It has become one of the deepest port of India with 18 meters of draft. For this is known as the busiest sea port in Southern part of India. Krishnapatnam Port is a privately built and owned all weather, deep water port on the east coast of India. Krishnapatnam Port is located about 190 km north of the Chennai Port and 25 kilometers east of the city of Nellore. The port is owned and operated by the Krishnapatnam Port Company Limited (KPCL).

Krishnapatnam Port is capable of handling 75 million tonnes of cargo per annum and is the deepest port of India with a draft of 18.5 metres. The hinterland of the port includes southern and central Andhra Pradesh, eastern Karnataka, northern Tamil Nadu and Eastern Maharashtra. The Port is linked to the Chennai-Kolkata rail line through a 19 km long line and is also connected with the National Highway 5 which is being upgraded from a 4 lane to a 6 lane highway.

Krishnapatnam Port is connected to the National Highway Number 5 through a state highway. The authorities have also constructed a dedicated 25 kilometres road to National Highway No. 5 and a railway line connecting the Chennai-Howrah broad gauge line near Venkatachalam.
