Sholinghur is located in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. It is a town under Walajapet taluk and is known for Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. According to history the town had been under the rule of the Nawabs of Arcot, Chola Dynasty and Tipu Sultan. The Second Anglo War was fought here by Sir Eyre Coote against Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali.
Legend of Sholinghur
According to legend it is believed that Lord Narasimha took several forms or incarnations for his reformation work in this world. He had also sent some of his messengers as preceptors to carry out his work. One of those preceptors was Doddacharya of Chozha Lingapuram. He is also known as Sholinghur. It is said that he lived almost 470 years ago and provided sacrifices for Lord Yoga Narasimhar.

Pilgrimage Centres in Sholinghur
Sholinghur is known for several pilgrimage spots visited by devotees from different places. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy perched on top of Ghatikachala hill and Sri Yoga Anjaneya Swamy hill temple are two famous temple s located here. The Thakkan Kulam is a big pond here that houses an Anjaneyar statue, 45 feet in height. Besides this the Kaveripakkam Lake, one of the biggest lakes in Tamil Nadu is located here. It is almost 14 km in length. The war monument constructed in 1784 A.D by Tippu Sultan during Second Anglo-Mysore War can be seen here.
