Noida is the short form of New Okhla Industrial Development Area. It came into administrative existence on 17 April 1976.

Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar District, Uttar PradeshNoida was set up as part of an urbanization thrust during the controversial Emergency period (1975-1977). It was created under the UP Industrial Area Development Act. It is home to the Noida Film City.

Noida is located in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. The district`s administrative headquarters is situated in the town of Surajpur. The District Magistrate (DM), resides in Noida. The city is a part of the Noida-Dadri Vidhan Sabha state constituency and Gautam Budh Nagar Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency.

Geography of Noida
Noida is located in Gautam Budh Nagar district. It is about 20-kilometre southeast of New Delhi. On the west and south-west it is bound by the Yamuna River, on the north and north-west by the city of Delhi, on the north-east by the cities of Delhi and Ghaziabad and on the north-east, east and south-east by the Hindon River. Noida is located on the old river bed of Yamuna. The soil is rich and loamy and is suitable for growing seasonal vegetables like wheat and cash crops like sugarcane.

Noida extension includes sectors of Greater Noida.

Demographics of Noida
Noida was inhabited by around 100 Villages in the past. It is mainly dominated by yadav and gujjar caste.

Education in Noida
Noida is home to Mahamaya Technical University. Several colleges are affiliated to it. and various colleges affiliated to it. Other institutes include It is also home to the private institutes like Noida International University (NIU), Amity University, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology , Jaipuria Institute of Management and JSSATE Noida. Some of the well known schools of Noida are Delhi Public School, Army Public School, Amity School, Apeejay School, Lotus Valley International, DAV Public school and many more. Noida also has the Asian Academy of Film & TV. It also has a medical, engineering and Commerce coaching institutes.

Industry in Noida
It is a major hub for multinational firms outsourcing IT services i.e. EXL Service, Abstract Consultancy, TSYS International, IBM, AON Hewitt, Fujitsu, Ebix, CSC, Fiserv, TCS, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Adobe,DELL, Patni Computers, Corbus, Accenture, JK Tech., Metlife, Indus Valley Partners, The Smart Cube, Many large Software and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies have their offices in the city.

It also has the head office of the Software Technology Park, established by the Government of India to promote the software industry.

Noida has emerged as a hub for automobile ancillary units, with companies like Escorts, Honda-SIEL and New Holland Tractors Alstom, ISGEC, LG, Samsung, and music company T-series doing business in the city.

Film city, established by Sandeep Marwah, is a hub for major news channels. News channels like Zee News, NDTV, TV Today group, IBN, CNBC, newsX, have their offices here. Noida is a major revenue earner for the government through taxes.
