This is one of the largest sanctuaries, which nestles some rare birds and animals, which are kept in an untouched and unexplored atmosphere. Along with some rare animal species, this sanctuary includes a wide variety of flora and fauna, which defines the exotic atmosphere of the sanctuary.

With its richness and diversity, the sanctuary offers many opportunities to the nature lovers who enjoy the picturesque sites. Spreading over an area of 834.16 sq. kms, Dandeli wildlife sanctuary is one of the richest sanctuaries in Karnataka. It covers at about 35 kms wide and the wild life sanctuary is surrounded with sytheric rocks, monolithic granite structure amidst thick forest with the Kaneri River flowing by its side.

Dandeli wildlife sanctuary offers numerable opportunities for trekking trails and fishing spots in Dandeli. All this provide the most scenic beauty to the sanctuary, which is admired by the all tourist who visit the sanctuary. Along with extraordinary collection of flora this sanctuary is famous for the rare fauna.

Wild life species include elephant, Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, gaur, flying squirrels, mouse deer etc along with some exceptional species of birds. Among the rare species the birds like magpie robin, golden backed woodpecker, crested serpent eagle and many more which are often found in the sanctuary. Along with this, the major attraction of Dandeli is crocodile, which can be viewed along with other animals.
