Vajikarana Tantra , Science Of Infertility And VirilityVajikarana Tantra deals with various diseases like infertility and weakness of the shukra dhatu or the vital reproductive fluids of the body. The anatomical and physiological portions of Ashtang Ayurveda are based on three factors- dosh (basic body constituents), dhatu (body tissues) and mala (body wastes).

Dhatu decides the configuration of the body and functions under the governance of the dosha. In all, there are seven dhatu: rasa, rakta, mansa, med, asthi, majja and shukra. From rasa (life sap) the body develops rakta (blood), from rakta it develops mansa (muscles), from mansa is developed med (fat), from med is built up asthi (bones), asthi gives rise to majja (nervous system) and from majja is created shukra (reproductive elements in body).

Shukra is regarded as the supreme body tissue, the end product of body metabolism. Vajikarana Tantra asserts that for intimate satisfaction, for successful copulation and for better offspring , the shukra dhatu should be in good condition, and for this, the dhatu sequence ought to function consistently well. This is where vajikaran drugs (aphrodisiacs) come into play. They help in giving strength and vigor to the shukra dhatu thus enlivening the sexual potentiality of the body.

Since semen is the visible end product of the functioning of the chain of dhatu, practitioners of Vajikarana Tantra consider semen as a very valuable fluid that should not be wasted only for the sake of pleasure. In other words, this branch promoted celibacy as an essential condition for maintaining good health. It helps increase the will power, intellect and memory in addition to a healthy body.

The chief purpose of shukra should be to produce healthy progeny, which lays the foundation of a future healthy society. Thus, Vajikarana Tantra tries to harness the sexual prowess and utilise it for the betterment of the society. Abstinence was recommended as a necessary condition for producing a mature and powerful shukra dhatu. The Ayurvedic practitioners promoted the general belief that if the whole of the society followed the guidelines of Vajikarana Tantra strictly then it would produce tejaswi (bright and brilliant) and ojaswi (those who have a stronger vital force supporting their life) progeny.

Vajikarana Tantra aims at curing all types of physical and psychological sexual problems like impotence, libido, poor erection and early ejaculation in males and sterility and frigidity in females. Ashtang Ayurveda strongly believed that a weak shukra dhatu was the causative factor that lies behind all male and female sexual problems.

Vajikaran tantra claims that it has guidelines for a normal, healthy and mature shukra dhatu, which is ultimately essential for satisfying and productive sex. Apart from prescribing a lot of effective formulations to provide nutrition to enhance the quality of the vital body fluids it also emphasizes on the use of aphrodisiac medicinal formulations and other tonic preparations to enhance one`s potency so that the man and the woman becomes capable of copulating with each other.
