Mehsana district is located in Northern part of the state of Gujarat, about 75 km from Ahmedabad.

Mehsana District, GujaratMehsana district is situated in the state of Gujarat. As per 2001 census, the population of Mehsana district is 18, 37,696 with 419 persons per sq. km. The District Headquarter is at Mehsana. The area of the place is 4,393 sq. km. This district is divided into nine talukas. Mehsana, Kadi, Visnagar, Vijapur and Becharaji are the developed talukas of the district. `Sun Temple` at Modhera is an important tourist destination of Mehsana district.

Geography of Mehsana District
Mehsana district is bounded with Banaskantha district in the north, Patan and Surendranagar districts in the west, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad districts in the south and Sabarkantha district in the east. Geographical location of the district is 23.15 degree to 23.53 degree North (Latitude) and 72.07 degree to 72.26 degree East (Longitude). Maximum temperature of the place is 45 degree centigrade and the minimum temperature id 15 degree centigrade. Sabarmati River, Rupen, Saraswati River, Khari, and Pushpawati rivers flow through this district.

Education in Mehsana District
There are 1160 primary schools, 40 secondary and 17 higher secondary schools in Mehsana District. Ganpat University is a deemed university with key disciplines such as engineering, pharmacy, management, and computers. There are four Engineering colleges in the district offering courses in various streams such as IT, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and Communications, Computers and Aeronautical Engineering. There are two government aided Homeopathic Colleges and one Government Nursing College.

There are more than 70 medium and large scale industries in Mehsana district primarily operating in Engineering, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Dairy products, and Oil and Textiles sectors. Mehsana district also hosts a Co-operative milk dairy - Dudhsagar, which is the second largest milk dairy in Asia. There are around 7,183 small scale industries operating in Mehsana district operating in Rubber and Plastic articles, Chemicals, Repairing Services, Textiles, Metals, Food and Agro processing and Engineering sector.

Tourism in Mehsana District
There are several places of interest in Mehsana district. Sun Temple at Modhera is a unique piece of architecture. Rani Udaymati Vav is the architectural wonder of Gujarat having largest step wells. The impressive images of Hindu Gods, their incarnations and their consorts can be seen at this place. Shanku Water Park in this district is the first and one of the largest theme water parks in India. It has varied facilities like swimming pool, jogging tracks, boating, horse riding, and Indoor-Outdoor games. Thol Wildlife Sanctuary is a major tourist attraction of this place.

By Air:
The nearest airport from Mehsana district is the domestic and International airport at Ahmedabad located at a distance of 77 km.

By Road:
There exists a 51 km four-lane toll road with two service lanes on either side on Ahmedabad - Mehsana route. The district is connected with Ahmedabad (74 km), Gandhinagar (68 km), Vapi (458 km), Palanpur (72 km), Rajkot (299 km) and Surendranagar (143 km).

By Rail:
Mehsana is well connected with other districts of the State like Patan, Porbandar and Ahmedabad by rail. It is further connected to Kandla port via a rail network through Ahmedabad and Gandhidham.

By Port:
The nearest port to Mehsana District is at Dholera.
