Faizabad District, Uttar PradeshFaizabad District is one of the administrative districts of Uttar Pradesh. Faizabad town is the district headquarters. The city of Faizabad, originally known as `Fyzabad`, is situated on the bank of River Saryu, about 130 kms east of Lucknow. The city was founded by Alivardi Khan, Nawab of Bengal (1676-1756) in 1730. The foundation of Faizabad was laid by Saadat Khan, the second Nawab of Awadh. The ruins of the ancient town of Ayodhya, with the modern town standing nearby, are located across the River Saryu and form a part of Faizabad. Faizabad is a small developing city.

Geography of Faizabad District
Faizabad District has a moderate and normal climate. The effect of rains, winter and summer are not very harsh. So, a pleasant whether remains throughout the year in this district. Usually the summer expands from April to July, the rainy season from August to September and the winter season from October to March. Average annual rainfall in the district is 1035 mm. Maximum recorded temperature in the district is around 43 degree Celsius and minimum recorded temperature is near about 2 degree Celsius.

Education in Faizabad District
There are two Universities in Faizabad District, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University (formerly Awadh University) and Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology (NDUAT). Kamta Prasad Sundar Lal Saket Post-Graduate Degree College, which is one of the largest Post Graduate colleges in eastern Uttar Pradesh, is also situated in Faizabad. Further, there are several inter colleges such as Government Inter College, SSV Inter college, Faizabad District, Uttar Pradesh Anil Saraswati Inter College, Adarsh Inter College, Raj Karan Inter College, Maharaja Inter College and Forbes Inter College; Government Girls Inter College, Arya Kanya Inter College, Tulsi Kanya Inter College, Canossa Convent.

Culture of Faizabad District
Cultural heritage of Faizabad District originates in the past from the kingdom of Suryavanshis. Several fairs and festivals are organized in the district throughout the year like Ramnavami Mela, Saawan Jhoola Mela, Parikrama, Panchkosi Parikrama, Chaudah Kosi Parikrama and more. Hand made paper works and leather works are the popular crafts of Faizabad District.

Tourism in Faizabad District
There are several tourist places in Faizabad District. Most prominent ones are Gulab Bari, Maqbara, Guptar Ghat and Hanuman Garhi. Moreover, there are several tourist places in Ayodhya, which is about 6 kms away from Faizabad. Some of the popular temples of Ayodhya are Hanuman Garhi, Ratana Sinhasan, Kanak Bhawan, Rang Mahal, Mani Parvat, Shayma Sadan, Nageshwar Nath, Shugreev Kila, Chhotty Deokali and Sita Rasoi. The popular Ghats to be visited in Faizabad District are Nageshwar Ghat, Nirmochan Ghat, Vasudeo Ghat, Raj Ghat, Jhunki Ghat, Lakshman Ghat, Gola Ghat and Tulsidas Ghat. Ayodhya is one of the principal religious centres of the country.

Faizabad is well accessed from the other cities of the state. Buses are frequently available from Lucknow, Delhi and Gorakhpur and also from Varanasi and Allahabad. Trains are available from Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi and Allahabad. Nearest airport is Lucknow.
