Chaturwidh Chikitsa is an amalgamation of both rigorous and smooth ways of Ayurvedic treatment. It is one of the important methods of treatment in Ayurveda. This Chikitsa suggests four types of treatment in Ayurvedic medicine. The four paths of treatment in Chaturwidh Chikitsa include Sanshodhan Chikitsa, Snashman Chikitsa, Aachar Chikitsa and Ahar Chikitsa.
Sanshodhan Chikitsa: In Sanshodhan, the vitiated doshas are pushed out of the body of the patient. Bearing this treatment calls for great strength and stamina hence this is applied on those who are strong.
Snashman: In Snashman, the aggravated doshas are usually suppressed at its place. It is usually applied on low strength and soft-hearted patients and can not be exposed to strong medicines or treatments.
Aachar Chikitsa: Aachar Chikitsa is actually a psychological treatment. Here, the treatment procedure emphasises on participation in religious and social activities. This method acts as a motivational source to cure the patient.
Ahar Chikitsa: The Ahar Chikitsa, as the name suggests gives importance on maintaining the diet of the patient according to the doshas he is suffering from. This helps in bringing a proper balance in the food intake of the patient by adding right amount of nutritious food.
