The Warangal Regional Medical Education society founded the college, with active support of the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the Director of Medical services, and the Warangal District Collector.

Objective of Kakatiya Medical College (KMC)
The principal objective of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal District of Telangana is to provide Medical education for students of the Telangana region of the state. Now Telangana is a newly formed state in India. The then Honourable Minister of Health, Government of India, Sri P. Karnakar inaugurated the college on 23rd July 1959.

Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal was located in a building donated by the Pingile family at Waddepally, in its initial period and it was shifted to its permanent site in November 1961.

The permanent campus of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi in 1966. The college has earned recognition as one of the premier medical institutes in Andhra Pradesh, over the years and it admits 150 students each year. The students are admitted in Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal, through a competitive examination called the EAMCET (Engineering Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test) held throughout Andhra Pradesh.

The campus of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal comprises of staff quarters, a library, and separate hostels for male and female and also for the boys. There are a number of hospitals associated with the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal and the hospitals include the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Warangal, the Government Maternity Hospital, Hanamkonda, the Chanda Kanthaiah Memorial Hospital, Warangal, the Regional Eye Hospital, Warangal and the Regional TB and Chest Hospital. The KMC, Warangal is presently affiliated to the NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS).
