Since the state is blessed with hills and forests trekking has become a popular adventure sport in Karnataka. Coorg, Chikamagalur, Canara, Shimoga District and Hassan are the popular spots for trekking.

Kumara Hills
Kumara Parvata is one of the highest peaks in Western Ghats. Track here begins from Bidalli (Cooorg) or from Subramanya lying in Uttar Kannada District. From South Karnataka the trekkers proceed to a place called Girigadde. Enroute the trekkers in Karnataka will also witness a beautiful waterfall. This trekking track is one of the most exciting and challenging tracks. The best season for setting out here is early winter.

Kudremukha
Kudremukha in Karnataka is the second highest peak in the Western Ghats. High summit and dense forests has made this place the Mecca for trekkers. People from all over the world come here to trek. Kudremukha or Horse Face Range derives its name from the shape of the mountain. This mountain overlooks the Arabian Sea and is located in the district of Chikmagalur. A church and a waterfall are to be found while trekking in this part of Karnataka. Trekking on this range will lead the trekkers to the National Park and bird watching.

Kodachari Peak
The peak of Kodachari is another trekking site located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. The altitude of this range is 1343 meters. It is a 5-hour climb to reach the top. According to legends the great sage Shankaracharya meditated at the top of this summit. To commemorate this temple has been constructed here. The stunning sight of the sun dipping into the western horizon will remain with trekkers for a lifetime. Kodachari hills encompass a large forest area called Mookambika Nature Reserve. The apt season for trekking in this region is from October to March.

Narasimha Parvatha
Narasimha Parvatha is a part of Kudremukh National Park. From a place called Kigga it will take 4 to 5 hours to reach the hilltop. This range is located in Agumbe Hill Station. The dense forest and spectacular scenes have made this place popular amongst the nature enthusiasts. Besides this, there is the Tadiyendamol hill in the Kodagu district.
