Uttarakhand, the northern state of India, is known for its scenic beauty and also some of the intricately designed crafts, which have been appreciated by art connoisseurs across the world. Some of the crafts of the region include wood carvings and ornaments making. Other most important crafts are handloom, weaving, and dyeing crafts. Some crafting methods have been passed on from generations while others were promptly invested out of need.

Types of Crafts in Uttarakhand
The Kumaon region of the state is known for artistic crafts like intricate metal carvings, wood works, etc. Munsyari is famous for pashmina shawls and other fine textile materials. Copper and woolen products are mainly found in Almora district. Nainital is known for folk crafts like candle making drift wood items, etc.

Wood craft
Craftsmen of Uttarakhand are experts in wood carvings. The abundant availability of wood in the region has led to the production of artistic wooden products. Classy designs are crafted on doors, windows and ceilings in the houses of the region. The beautifully crafted wooden furniture has drawn the attraction of craft lovers. The motifs mainly have Gods and Goddesses and the craftsperson usually do specific latticework to fill in the open space of the windows, which gives a screen like effect.

Jewellery making
The Kumaon and Garhwal region in the state make traditional ornaments having very old designs and patterns. The ornaments are made in gold, silver, beads, semi-precious stones, lacquer and often copper was overlaid in brass.

Miniature Paintings
Miniature paintings of Uttarakhand have Mughal influence. The royalty of the Mughal art had a profound impact on the school/ style of painting called the Garhwal School of Painting or the Pahari School of painting. Aipan and Peeth are folk forms of art made generally found in homes and practiced usually by women. Both use a lot of geometric patterns, "Geru" and rice paste.

Metal Crafts
Copper smiths of Uttarakhand are masters in their craft and the art is inherited from ancestors. From daily utility items to decorative ones, Uttarakhand craftsmen are unparallel to carve products out of copper or “Tamta”.

Clay Crafts
Pottery has been an ancient craft of the state which is now synonymous with the tradition of arts and crafts in Uttarakhand. Dekara is the three-dimensional clay version of the various divinities and is intended for worship purposes only. These idols are made from fine clay and are colored to make it look more appealing.

Handloom Crafts
Uttarakhand is a significant producer of wool which also forms a part of the textile industry of the region owing to the climate. Different types of rugs, carpets, and blankets of exquisite designs have grabbed the attentions of locals and tourist alike.
