Pre revolution era in Nepali literature had commenced from 1977 A.D., etching out a curtain call in 2007 A.D. This pre revolution era was an exceedingly prolific and productive time for literature in the Nepali language, in spite of extreme deficiency in freedom of expression. The independent magazine Sharada was the only printed mass medium that was accessible for the publication of Nepali literature. The genre of short stories was lucky enough to possess Laxmi Prasad Devkota, Guru Prasad Mainali and Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, forever recognised and venerated as the `trident force`. However, pushing every depressing point towards the posterior, this pre revolution era was one of the most significant periods for Nepali literature and its tremendous maturation and flowering. Muna Madan by Laxmi Prasad Devkota successfully portrays the life of a man who shuns his wife and travels abroad to make money and while returning, he passes away. The story also depicts the life of a piteous woman who had very much sustained misery in complete absence of her husband. Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala had intelligently initiated `psychology` in literature. His literary works comprise Teen Ghumti, Doshi Chasma, Narendra Dai, etc.

Besides these mentioned trident forces of literary wonders and brains, there also exists umpteen significant and invaluable authors of the pre revolution era in Nepali literature and their major works can be enlisted and amassed as under:

Lekh Nath Paudyal (1941-2002): Born in Pokhara, Lekh Nath Paudyal was honoured with the title of "Kabi Shiromani". He has forever been considered as one of the best and greatest poets of Nepal, also touted as the most positive and optimistic poet ever to have been born. Lekh Nath was a proud receiver of the "Tribhuvan Prize". Works of Lalit Nath Paudyal: Taruntapasi, Buddhibinod, Satyakali Sambad, Mero Ram, Ritubichar, Satyasmriti, Lalitya (in two volumes) etc.

Bal Krishna Sama : Bal Krishna Sama is unanimously deemed and revered as the greatest and most versatile play writer of Nepal, perhaps rightly entitled as the `Shakespeare of Nepal`. He had risen his baritone and virile voice against the Ranas quite astoundingly through his gutsy poems. Gopal Prasad Rimal was also fêted with the "Madan Prize" and "Tribhuvan Prize". He is also grossly esteemed and admired as the Aadhunik Kabi (literally standing for modernistic poet).

Works of Gopal Prasad Rimal: Aamako Sapana.
