Omar Abdullah is the 11th and youngest Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He also remained the Minister of state for External Affairs.

Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister of Jammu and KashmirOmar Abdullah is the 11th and youngest Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir on January 5, 2009, after developing a government in coalition with the Indian National Congress. He is a member of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. Before being a Chief Minister Abdullah remained the member of 14th Lok Sabha who represented the Srinagar constituency of Jammu and Kashmir. He also chaired the post of Union Minister of State for External affairs in Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s government from July 23, 2001 to December 23, 2002.

Early Life of Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah was born on 10th of March in the year 1970. He hails from Kashmir`s first family that is the Abdullah family. Omar Abdullah is the son of Dr. Farooq Abdullah who is a renowned politician of Kashmir. He did his schooling from the Burn Hall School, Srinagar and then at Lawrence School, Sanawar. He completed his graduation from Sydenham College, Mumbai where he did his B.Com. Later Omar Abdullah studied MBA from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, but was unable to complete the course.

Political Career of Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah was elected to the twelfth Lok Sabha in the year 1998. During that time he was a member in the ministry of tourism and at the age of twenty nine years he was the youngest minister. In the thirteenth Lok Sabha he was re- elected and on the 13th October 1999, Omar Abdullah took oath as the Union minister of the State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He became the youngest Union Minister on 22nd of July 2001 when he was made the Union minister of State for External Affairs under Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s NDA government. But he resigned from the post in the next year on 23rd of December. Omar Abdullah replaced his father Farooq Abdullah as the president of the National conference on June 23rd 2002. Thereafter in the year 2006 he was re-elected as the President of the party for the second term.

In the Kashmir election of 2008 the National Conference won with maximum number of seats and formed a coalition government of the Congress party and was, thus, sworn as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir on the 5th of January 2009.

Personal Life of Omar Abdullah
Omar Abdullah is married to Payal Singh who is the daughter of an Army officer on 1st September 1994. The couple has two sons Zahir and Zamir. At present, the couple is separated.
