Kasturba Medical College , Udupi,  KarnatakaThe Kasturba Medical College (KMC) is situated in Manipal in Udupi District, Karnataka. The college was founded in 1953 and it being run and managed by the T.M.A foundation (formerly General Academy of Education). There are actually two separate colleges and the Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was established by Dr T.M.A. Pai on 30th June 1953. The KMC was the first private sector medical college in India and it started with only the pre-clinical section at Manipal. The students of the KMC, Manipal had to go to KMC, Mangalore for completing their clinical training. However, the clinical program was commenced at Manipal in 1969 with the setting up of Kasturba Hospital and with this, the KMC, Manipal became a full-fledged independent college.

The Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal is ranked among the top 10 medical colleges in India at the moment and several students from 44 countries are being graduated from KMC, every year. The medical degree (MBBS) of KMC, Manipal is recognized worldwide, including by the General Medical Council and ECFMG. The KMC, Manipal was under the purview of the Mangalore University in its initial period. However, the Government of India granted Deemed University status to Manipal University (formerly known as MAHE) in 1993 and soon it brought KMC, Manipal under its wing.

Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal got the recognition from the Medical Council of India in 1958 and it has exchange programs with the Loma Linda University, USA, Operation Eye Sight Universal, Canada, Tay Side University, Dundee and University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. The KMC, Manipal offers numerous courses to the students and the courses include MBBS, B Sc Biotechnology, MD, MS, PG Diploma, DM, M Ch, M S c, M Phil and PhD.

The KMC, Manipal also offers a large number of academic courses, including Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The postgraduate courses offered by the Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal include MD in Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, and Radio-therapy. Other Postgraduate courses include MS in General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Otorhinolaryngology.

Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal also offers some PG Diploma courses for the students and the courses are, PG Diploma in Anaesthesiology, Clinical Pathology, Child Health, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, and Radio-diagnosis. The duration of the MD and MS courses offered by KMC, Manipal is 3 years, however, for the students having a recognized diploma in the same speciality, the duration of MD and MS courses is 2 years. The duration of all the PG diploma courses is 2 years.
