Kabandha in the Puranas is portrayed as the poisonous demon or Rakshasa. Usually, Kabandha is described as having only one eye and a huge mouth containing many sharp teeth. He is sometimes depicted as having eight legs, giving him a superficial resemblance to a spider.
Kabandha was originally born as a Gandharva but became a demon at the curse of Lord Indra. When he tried to harm Rama and Lakshmana then he was killed by Rama.
When Kabandha was dying then he changed to his Gandharva form and set free by Rama. Kabandha after coming back to his original form recommended Rama to go in search of Sugriva, a forest king and take the assistance of him. Sugriva would be able to assist Rama in search of his wife Sita, who was kidnapped by Rama. Kabandha was also called Danu.
