Grahanandan Singh was an Indian field hockey player who also participated at the Olympics and won the gold medal.

Grahanandan Singh, Indian Hockey PlayerGrahanandan Singh was an Indian field hockey player. He was popularly known as `Nandy` and also served the role of an officer in the Indian Navy. This illustrious field hockey player participated in the Olympics as the member of the Indian National Hockey team. The Olympics of 1948 and 1952, held at London and Helsinki respectively were being participated by Indian team. On both the occasion India won gold medal. At the 1948 Olympics India played 5 matches and won all the 5 matches.

Early Life of Grahanandan Singh
Singh was born on February 18, 1926 in Lyallpur, British India. He received his education from Government College, Lahore.

Career of Grahanandan Singh
His hockey skills came into limelight in 1942 when he played for Government College, Lahore, in the Punjab University Hockey Championship. He played for the University in 1944, 1945 and 1946.

He then joined the Navy and earned an opportunity to be in the Indian team and represent Indian in the 1948 London Olympic Games. He retained his position in the team for the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Singh continued to play from 1951 to 1955 and again in 1957 and 1958. He was the Services Captain in the National Championships 1958 and Team Manager at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.

Also a keen golfer, Grahanandan Singh breathed his last on 7 December 2014 at his residence in New Delhi, India. He was aged 88.
