B V Selvaraj, Former Governor of LakshadweepShri B V Selvaraj, IAS, was appointed as the Administrator of Union Territory of Lakshadweep by the President of India, under clause (1) of Article 239 of the Constitution of India. B V Selvaraj was appointed to this position from December 22nd 2006. Honourable Administrator is considered as the Head of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. B V Selvaraj also held the Chairmanship of Lakshadweep Development Corporation (a U.T. Administration public sector undertaking) and SPORTS (Society for Promotion of Recreational Tourism and Sports). He operated ex-officio as the Inspector General of Lakshadweep Police.

Early Life of B V Selvaraj
B V Selvaraj was born on 17th November 1953. He completed his graduation in Science with Honours from Ranchi University and after that he did his Post Graduation from Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. After that he pursued a Ph.D. in Management Science.

Selvaraj has also held many other positions and served as an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (AGMU-1981). With this status, Selvaraj has served in various capacities in the State of Mizoram, National Capital Territory of Delhi, Union Territories of Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Commissioner and Secretary to Government, Development Commissioner, Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner, Chief Electoral Officer, Resident Commissioner etc. Selvaraj has also worked, in addition as the Chairman & Managing Director of several public sector Corporations, Central deputation in Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development and also worked as the Registrar of Pondicherry Central University.

Selvaraj has also worked as Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner in Puducherry following the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 26th December, 2004. His term as the Administrator of Union Territory of Lakshadweep ended on 16th May, in the year 2009.

Personal Life of B V Selvaraj
B V Selvaraj is also a creative writer and poet. He has written many articles and booklets relating to public administration, tourism, industry, rural development, general management etc. Selvaraj also wrote two volumes of poetry, Puducheria in 1997 and Hi-Rum-Cherry in 2003. The 3rd volume of collection of poems, named Unbound: Conscience, is due for publication shortly.
