King occupied the highest position and had enormous power. Next to king, the chief queen and Yuvaraj were also shown respect. Yuvaraj helped king in administrative works.
Besides, these positions the following were the six important high officers that can be mentioned as
• Minister.
• Purohita.
• Senapati.
• Akshapatalika or accountant general.
• Bhandagarika or koshadhyaksha.
• Mahasandhi-vigratika.
Besides the above mentioned officers, Maimittika, Bhishaka Dutta, Antapurika etc., were other officers. Karnika was an official who wrote grants and orders of charity. Probably cash salaries were not given to officials and they were given land and jagirs. But arrears of the empire were under the control of samantas who provided military help to king at times.
Provincial administration: The entire empire was divided into visaya or provinces. Visayadhikari was the head of each visaya under whom were pattala and pattalika. They were first like districts. Each pattala had several cities and many villages. The other name of city was pattan whose head was called pattandhikari. Mathattar and gramadhyaksha looked after the administration of the village. Villages were given the powers for local administration.
