Methil Devika is an Indian dance personality of classical style. She is a dance research scholar, educator, performer and choreographer. She is hailing from Palakkad town in Kerala. Methil Devika hosts a number of national and international based dance programs not only in India but also in abroad. She is a veteran dancer, research scholar, educationalist, trainer and choreographer, who is experimenting in Asian and Pan Asian culture.
Early Life of Methil Devika
Methil Devika was born on 5th April 1977 to Rajagopal and Methil Rajeswari. She completed schooling from Dubai, pre-degree from Mercy College Palakkad and Degree in Commerce from Government Victoria College, Palakkad.
Personal Life of Methil Devika
Methil Devika has two elder sisters, Methil Radhika and Methil Renuka who work as journalists. Renowned writer Methil Radhakrishnan is her brother of maternal side. Methil Devika married Rajeev Nair in 2002 and settled in Bengaluru. They have a son named Devang. Methil Devika and Rajeev Nair divorced soon after Devang`s birth. After her divorce, Methil Devika relocated to Palakkad and opened a Dance School by the name "Sripada", in Ramanathapuram in Palakkad. Later, Methil Devika was married to actor Mukesh on 24th October 2013.
Career of Methil Devika
Methil Devika was the Vice Chairman of Government Victoria College in the academic year 1994-1995. Later, Methil Devika did Masters in Business Administration from Madras University and in Arts from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, West Bengal. She has submitted PhD thesis to Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu in the year 2013. She has also worked as lecturer in the Department of Post-graduate Studies in Mohiniyattam dance, Kathakali dance, Koodiyattam dance and at the Research Department, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, Kerala. Methil Devika also worked as a Course Counsellor at the Department of International Students, Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University. Methil Devika is also active in Arts-in-Education and Arts-for-Specific Groups programs providing therapy through Arts for people with mental illnesses.
Methil Devika"s performances across the country and abroad have been praised for expressing human emotions through her skillful Mohiniyattam. She has performed in various major festivals like Kerala Fine Arts Society and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar youth festival. Methil Devika has also judged many festivals, among which Chilanka Dance Festival </b>in Thiruvananthapuram of 2017 is one of the most prominent ones. She has also been a part of the theatre adaption of the play "Naaga" in 2015. In 2017, Methil Devika made her debut in the film "Humans of Someone". She has appeared in and provided the narration of the short documentary film "Sarpatatwam". Methil Devika is an "A" grade artiste in Doordarshan and she was also a part of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth). She was also empaneled with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations Delhi.
