Ambika Soni is an eminent Indian Politician, member of Indian National Congress and the former Minister of Information and Broadcasting. She is also an elected Member of Parliament representing Punjab in the Rajya Sabha. She remained the Minister of Tourism and Culture from 2006-2009. She was also appointed to implement discipline in the faction-ridden Congress in Kerala.
Early Life of Ambika Soni
Ambika Soni was born on 13th November 1943 to Late Shri Nakul Sen, I.C.S and Shrimati Indu Nakul Sen at undivided Punjab, Lahore. She studied at Indraprastha College, Delhi University, Alliance Francaise, Bangkok and University of Havana, Cuba and obtains subsequently B.A. (Hons.), Diploma Langue Francaise, Post-Graduate Diploma in Spanish Art and Literature. On 14 October 1961, she got married to Shri Uday C. Soni and the couple has one son.
Political Career of Ambika Soni
In 1975, Ambika Soni was chosen as the President of Indian Youth Congress. Ambika Soni was selected to Rajya Sabha on March 1976. In the year 1998, she became the President of All India Mahila Congress. She became the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee in the year 1999 and she held the post onwards. On Jan. 2000, she was again elected to Rajya Sabha. From Jan 2000 to Feb. 2004, she has served as the member of Committee on Public Undertakings. She also held the position of Member of Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation from Aug. 2004 onwards.
