Uttarakhand Open University is the sole Open University in the state of Uttarakhand. It is set up in the year 2005.

Uttarakhand Open UniversityThe Uttarakhand Open University is located in the city of Haldwani in the state of Uttarakhand. This is the only Open University that the state has and was set up on 31st October 2005 through an Act of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. Uttarakhand Open University was actually set up with an aim to spread the skills and knowledge through distance learning and with the introduction of the unique, innovative and flexible method of education to promote independent learning. All the academic program has been designed to meet the demand of the market and the interest of the students have also been taken care of by the university authority. Through ongoing curricula enhancement and thorough course offerings, Uttarakhand Open University sticks to ensure excellent education for students.

University is well aware of the current happenings and tries to imbibe all the latest changes and move ahead with all the required changes. It promotes technical and professional education by introducing a number of job oriented courses. Whether through development of the research units or by providing quality training to the workforce to get quality manpower, they strive to play a distinctive role in furthering the nation`s social, cultural, business and economic development. The University has signed MoUs with Tata Motors, Hiltron Calc, University18, IETS, IKC India and various others.

There are many types of courses that are offered by the Uttarakhand Open University. Various types of diploma and certificate courses are offered by the university and at reasonable rates. All the diploma courses have duration of one year and certificate courses are offered for six month duration.
