OmkarThe benefits of Omkar sadhana are very powerful and positive. All the nerves and other channels in the body are cleaned and purified. We experience cheerfulness and get energized. The mind becomes peaceful as its instability is reduced and one can progress successfully in meditation. The practitioner (sadhaka) is psycho-physiologically better relaxed and emotionally well balanced after Omkar recitation, done in a low pitch manner than in high pitch. The cardiac function is also improved as it helps to remove the blockages in the coronary arteries. The blood pressure is maintained at the normal level.

The state of consciousness becomes conducive for contemplation. The intelligence is sharpened, the memory is improved and the grasping (perception) power is strengthened to perceive and retain various kind of knowledge. Personality becomes magnetically powerful, bright, impressive and yet virtuous. One, who practices Omkar japa regularly and sincerely, always remains happy and contented. One acquires sound mental health and is blessed with joy and tranquility. Omkar sadhana bestows us with the prosperity and protection in any situation in life with good fortune on all the fronts.

There is no doubt about the fact that regular Omkar sadhana gives extraordinary spiritual enlightenment. Owing to its supremacy, Omkar is the bridge, the link between the other forms of yoga, precisely mantra yoga, bhakti yoga, hatha yoga and raja yoga. Daily practice of Yoga should include at least 10 chants of Om.

The Om chants should be rhythmic and slow. While chanting Om, irrational pause, frequent change in the pitch, too loud volume, inhalation through the mouth, etc., should be avoided consciously. Om chanting should be with utmost devotion and concentration, and not simply mechanical. The forehead should be wrinkle free. Facial muscles, eyes, eyebrows, and forehead should be loose. One should take into consideration one`s capacity of breath, and then chant Om appropriately. Forceful chanting with the attitude of competitive spirit, stubbornness and with unnecessary contraction of the stomach is strictly prohibited. If chanted properly the effect of Omkar would be pleasant and peaceful and will not cause, fatigue, laziness or any sort of breathing problem. After the Omkar sadhana, the chanting of the Gayatri mantra is recommended for maximum spiritual benefits.
