Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal is the current Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and a valuable member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is an eminent Indian politician who chaired the post of the Chief Minister of the same state during the period March 1998 to March 2003 and has been appointed as the Chief Minister again on 1st January 2008. He was born on 10th of April in the year 1944 in the Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh to Capt. Mahant Ram and Smt. Phulmu Devi. Prem Kumar Dhumal was also a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from the Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency.

Early Life of Prem Kumar Dhumal
Prem Kumar Dhumal graduated from Doaba College under Punjabi University and completed his master degree from Jalandhar and G.N.D. University in Amritsar. Prof. Dhumal is a talented personality. He started his career working as an agent of LIC and later became a teacher with the Punjabi University Evening College, Jalandhar district and then Doaba College, Jalandhar city.

Political Career of Prem Kumar Dhumal
Prem Kumar Dhumal was earlier the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh from March 1998 to March 2003 and was elected to the Lok sabha previously in the year 1989 and 1991. Before winning the seat of Lok sabha in 2007, Prem Kumar Dhumal was the leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly. In the election of 2007, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) won the elections to the Vidhan Sabha and Prem Kumar Dhumal being the chief ministerial candidate was chosen as the chief minister. During his tenure as a Chief Minister his motto of "Roads, education, health, self, and self" covers the all comprehensive growth formula for all parts of the state. As a Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh his development tasks include environmental protection and the clean developmental practices for certifying Himachal becoming the first carbon-free state in the country.

The concern of a charitable environmental fund, the Pathankot-Manali-Leh-Ladakh Railway line, prohibition of holding political functions in government schools and thus deliverance of school children from the shackles of captive audience stirred the natives of the state.
