In the hymns of Rig Veda it is mentioned that Sinivali is a Vedic goddess. She is portrayed as a broad hipped, fair-armed, fair-fingered deity. She presides over fecundity and easy birth. Sinivali is compared with Gungu, Raka, Sarasvati, Indrani and Vartunani. She is invoked together with Sarasvati to place the fetus in the womb.
In later Vedic texts, she is identified with Raka, presiding over the new moon.
